The fifth installment in director Tony Comstock’s series of real couple sex videos, Ashley & Kisha is by far the most modern story. This time our couple is a young black lesbian pair, college girls who talk about text messaging and 8am classes and college parties. Ashley has just come out and Kisha is a recent convert…yes, courtesy of Ashley. The two are very, very chatty, regaling us with the tale of their first meeting, their first kiss, their first sex together…which, for Kisha, is her virgin lesbian experience. The love story begins with Ashley catching a glimpse of Kisha's bare bottom in a bathroom, where Ashley was making out with an ex-girlfriend. Ashley comes off as an experienced lady-killer, while Kisha was sexually conservative and straight until Ashley’s dogged pursuit pays off and Kisha’s curiosity gave way to desire and, ultimately, love. It’s a whirlwind romance!

They’re both so innocent! Even the worldly and experienced Ashley: When Kisha says, “She’s been with a number of people,” Ashley counters with a sly, “Girls,” followed by the admission of “Only seven.” Seven? Can you imagine having been with only seven people? It’s kind of adorable! As are the girls: they’re fresh-faced and dewy, with gorgeous smiles. (Brilliant teeth, MY thing!)

Talking about the series and this latest work, Comstock says, “In the course of these 10 years I’ve visited with and witnessed many couples making love, and what has struck me is that whether a couple is younger or older; black or white or some shade in between; lesbian, gay, or straight; or practices familiar or more exotic acts; no matter any of these differences, there is a profound transcendence in the giving and receiving of sexual pleasure.” That is certainly evident here in Ashley & Kisha, just as in all Comstock’s previous films.

Comstock continues: “In witnessing this giving and receiving, in seeing desire writ large in faces both familiar and strange, I have seen myself. I have seen my own desire to please and be pleased, to pleasure and be pleasured, to love and be loved. And it is that seeing of one’s self that is, for me, the essential cinematic experience; that wonderful spark of recognition, that moment when the screen becomes a mirror for our own hopes and dreams.”
You may need a bit of patience to enjoy this film. After a half-hour into the movie we’ve still only seen tantalizingly brief bits of sex scene intercut with the women’s story. While their male/female energy is amazing and there’s a total thrill of the new as they laugh about making a half-hour drive to pick up a strap-on at a 24-hour sex toy shop, it does try a perv’s patience… When the sex finally does arrive, it’s just as young and dewy as the ladies, very sweet and slow and quiet. No bells, no whistles – and somewhat unfortunately, no strap-on! – just much making out, fingering and cunnilingus. The wildest things get is a bit of ass-eating and simultaneous ass smacking. These girls are very, um, new.

Comstock’s press release says, “The technical aspects of this film are as unique as the story. Ashley and Kisha's lovemaking was shot on Super16 film. The film was transferred and color corrected by New York City's Magno Sound and Video using a unique and proprietary frame for frame telecine process developed expressly for Tony Comstock's erotic filmmaking. The result is a luminous rendering of a beautiful love story.” I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout all that technical mumbo-jumbo but I can say that there are quite a few moments of blur. I’m not sure if they’re intentional but they give the film a somewhat amateur look. Which may not be the goal, given the aforementioned touting of technical aspects. Hmmm.

This latest installment continues in “exploring the role of physical attraction and sexual pleasure in the human experience of love.” If you’ve enjoyed Comstock’s previous films, you will no doubt enjoy this one for that precise reason. They’re all an exploration of love and sex and passion.
